Duke Fleed is a
prince of the Fleed Empire, a thriving and peaceful kingdom from the far reaches
of space. The Fleed Empire had no enemies... except for one. His
name was King Vega. One day, King Vega sent an armada of spaceships to the
heart of the Fleed Empire and destroyed it. Only two people survived the
destruction of the Fleed Empire: Duke Fleed... and his sister, Maria, whom
he found on Earth months later. After fleeing the remains of his kingdom,
Duke Fleed flew many light years to the planet Earth. He settled upon a
farm in Japan in 1975 under the name Daisuke Umon to camoflauge his
identity. Unfortunately, he could not hide from King Vega for
long.
King Vega found the planet Earth and decided to conquer it,
assuming that Duke Fleed had hid himself there. He sent many mechanical
monsters and spaceships to draw the prince out of hiding so that he can be
slain. Of course, Duke Fleed decided to no longer stay in hiding and
retaliated against the armies of King Vega with his mecha, UFO Robo Grendizer.
The wars between Duke
Fleed and King Vega lasted three years, but Duke Fleed and his circle of friends
defeated King Vega's evil empire, and King Vega was assumed dead. In 1978,
Duke Fleed and his sister, Maria, left Earth to return to their home planet to
rebuilt their once mighty empire. The task was almost impossible, but
after twenty years, The Fleed Empire was reborn. Duke Fleed, the reigning
prince, ruled his kingdom with peace and serenity.
In 1999, he decided to
pay a visit to Earth, the planet that once was his sanctuary when he needed a
place to live. He and Maria flew to Earth on Grendizer to visit his
friends, including Koji Kabuto, the original pilot of the famous mecha, Mazinger
Z. During his stay, he cought wind of a federation called Ultimate
Crossover Tournament Fighting and its, then, flourishing mecha division.
Intrigued, he decided to sign up for the federation's mecha division. He
only stayed for one fight, and that was against another fellow super robot,
Voltron (Hyaku Ju-Oh Go-Lion).
After competing in his first match, he
learned that King Vega had survived and made his move against the Fleed Empire
after twenty-three years of inactivity. Duke Fleed and Maria Fleed
returned to their home to fight against the tyrant that once decimated their
homeland. After four more years, King Vega was defeated... and this
time... Duke Fleed made sure that he was dead. Once again, Duke Fleed's
kingdom is free from its enemies.
UFO Robo Grendizer have two different modes of combat:
Spacer Mode and Mecha Mode. In "Spacer Mode", Grendizer and fly
through space. In "Mecha Mode" Gredizer shoots from its spaceship hull as
a standing super robot. Grendizer cannot fly while he is in "Mecha Mode"
unless it is standing on its spaceship hull. The spaceship hull can be
controlled from the cockpit in Grendizer's head.
Grendizer uses three
modules that the mecha can interface with: Double Spacer, Marine Spacer,
and Drill Spacer. Each module has a separate pilot and can be interfaced
with one at a time. That means if Grendizer is with the Drill Spacer, the
mecha would have to detach the Drill Spacer to use another module.
UFO
Robo Grendizer is known under different names. For example:
United
States: Grandizer
Japan: UFO Robo Grendizer
Italy:
Goldrake
France: Goldorak
